Summary
For this project we learned how to make three kinds of instruments: wind, string, and chime. Wind instruments work when wind is exerted into a chamber. Chimes work when an object is hit and it vibrates as a result. Lastly, string instruments work when a string is moved and then continues to vibrate. In order to learn how to make these instruments, we first had to learn a couple concepts. These included resonance, vibration, wavelength, frequency, and amplitude. Then, we were able to get to work. We made a Google Document explaining these concepts and our reasoning behind how we made our interments. After we finished our instruments, we presented to the class, then had a concert open to the public in which we shoed off our instruments.
Reflection
This project taught me a good amount of valuable lessons. The most important take away I received, was that things can be a lot harder than they seem. I thought this project was going to be fairly easy, just make an instrument and learn a song. What I didn't realize, was that making the instrument was really hard and making it perfect was impossible. Small problems built up to the hardship of this project. Problems like, "how do we hold the string down", and "where are the holes going to be located for the flute. This taught me to be more prepared, to have supplies ready and work as hard as possible.. Also, it taught me to get things done in the beginning so that if their is anything wrong you have the time to go back and fix it.
One of the things that I believe I could have done better were I could have worked harder. A lot of the time I caught myself getting distracted. If I hadn't been distracted during this time I could have finished faster. Also, I could have asked for help from other groups. I found myself baffled in a couple of steps along the way. If I had talked with other people more I could have gotten ideas for how to solve my problems. I believe that I was a good leader in this project. I take ownership of the project and got most of my groups supplies. Also, I coordinated with my group on which supplies they should get. Secondly, I also problem solved rather well. I did really well when it came to using what I had to build our instruments. I improvised with a lot of materials.
