Summary For this project we selected a problem in the modern world. Then, we designed a solution and some of us made prototypes. After this we presented our problem and solution to the class. We also looked for possible sponsors. This projector wasn't necessarily about learning, but more about gaining solving skills by our selves. We worked in groups of four and shared thoughts to come up with the best solutions to our problems. Kyle, Jason, and Kyle R. were in my group. My group solved the oil crises. We researched facts on how oil affects the economy and the environment. We noticed that it hurt the ecosystem and that we are running out. Our first solution was to create an alternative fuel. We decided to improve the process instead by creating a device that devised the two chemicals made in the process of making bio fuel. The reason this helps is because you only want the biofuel, not the other chemical. Our device helps speed up the process of making bio fuel and therefore makes bio fuel a more promising alternative fuel. Concepts Engineering Design Cycle-The Engineering design cycle is a series of stepsthat engineers, scientists, and all people trying to solve a problem use. 1.Identify the need 2.Research the Problem 3.Develop possible solutions 4.Select the most promising solution 5.Construct a prototype 6.Test and evaluate the prototype 7.Communicate the design 8.Redesign 9.Repeat You may have to repeat this cycle multiple times before you find a solution. The hardest part of the cycle is identifying and researching a problem. That is said to be 80% of the cycle. Reflection While making this project I learned many things that were not necessarily scientific. I felt that I was a good leader and that I was able to organize such a complex project. Also, I felt that I put the power point together well, which took patience because it was tedious work to re-type all our facts. I will continue to use these skills that I have. I felt that I could have worked on time-usage. We wasted some time by all trying to do one thing. This time could have been used improving our project. If we had split up and taken notes on different subjects at the same time, we could have finished faster and been left with extra time to improve. I also felt that we didn't prepare for the presentation enough. next time I will make sure we prepare for our presentation, because if you have a bad presentation, it looks like you did bad work. even if you did really good work.
